Kano Emirate Council is to commence drug test for traditional title applicants as a measure to address increasing drug abuse in the society.
The emir of Kano Muhammad Sanusi II represented by Madakin Kano Alhaji Yusuf Ibrahim Cigari stated this on Monday during a workshop organized by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA and the Kano Emirate Council with a view to educate the traditional title holders on the danger associated with drug abuse.
He said arrangement has been put in place to ensure that the drug abuse campaign starts from the Emirate so that others would emulate to check the menace.
“Whoever is going to be turban as a title holder would first undergo drug test so as to ascertain that the person’s is not into drug, “ said Sanusi.
Muhammad Sanusi II Emir noted that the Emirate Council is partnering the NDLEA to check drug abuse among the people.
In a remark Kano State Commander of NDLEA Malam Hamza Umar said the command has taken the drug war to schools, motor parks and markets so as for people not to see it as a duty of government alone but for all stakeholders
Solacebase reports that Kano has been on the top chat of states with high level of drug and substance abuse and stakeholders putting efforts to address the situation as it presently involves women and youths.
