Troops of the 72 Special Forces Battalion have paraded three herdsmen terrorists in Makurdi with assorted weapons and charms recovered from them.
Briefing newsmen at the 72 batallion headquarters in Makurdi, the commander, 72 Special Forces Battalion, Lt Col Suleiman Muhammad, explained that the troops got an intelligence report that some herdsmen militia, planning to launch an attack and were camped in Tormatar village in Guma local government area of Benue State.
He stated that the armed men were gearing up for another possible attack on innocent citizens in the local government area. According to him, on getting to the militia camp, the herdsmen fired at the troops who immediately returned fire and dislodged the terrorists. He said the troops in the process arrested three of the militia out of which one was wounded during the gun battle. According to him, weapons recovered from the terrorists include, two AK 47 rifles with six rounds of 7.62 mm special ammunition, drugs and charms.
“The apprehended members of the militia were identified as Abubakar Umaru, Adamu Likita and Yusufa Alhaja. “We want to tell the general public that the Nigerian Army will leave no stone unturned to bring herdsmen terrorists, as well as any other criminal in Benue State, to book.”
In an interview with two of the suspects, Abubakar Umaru, and Yusufa Alhaja they revealed that they were from Awe local government area of Nasarawa State.
According to them, they are cattle rearers from Awe, and that the AK 47 and ammunition were given to them by one Mauda, who is at large.
