Troops of the Nigerian Army are currently locked down in a gun battle with Boko Haram terrorists in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital.
The insurgents made their way through a cashew plantation to the Jiddari Polo area of the state.
Residents are reported to be in a panic and are fleeing the area for safety.
Also, heavy gunshots around Giwa Barracks were heard.
Reports say that the terrorists attacked from three fronts; Aliramti Jiddari-Polo, Giwa Barracks & Molai area.
The Air Force is currently conducting air patrol around the metropolis while residents are trapped in the traffic caused by the pandemonium which is quite chaotic.
The North East Coordinator of the National Emergency Managment Agency, Bashir Garga has said that their officials have moved with their ambulances to locations close to polo.
He stated that says as soon as the fire exchange reduces they will move in to evacuate casualties.
He further stated that NEMA officials have been deployed to control and calm hundreds of terrified women and children on the streets.
