PDP Suspends Rally In Kano , As It Alleges Police Disrupt Venue Arrangement

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano state has suspended its planned rally scheduled  to hold in Gaya town on Saturday (today) until further notice.

The state party chairman, Alhaji Mas’ud El-Jibril Doguwa announced the decision of the party while briefing newsmen in Kano on Saturday.

During the aborted rally, the party had planned to receive the gubernatorial candidate of Democratic People Movement (PDM) in 2015 gubernatorial election Engr Bashir Ishaq and his supporters into the PDP.

Doguwa said the decision to suspend the rally followed several phone calls the leadership of the party received from concerned stakeholders urging them to suspend the event.

“We decided to shelve our visit to Gaya until further notice because of the so many calls we received calling on us to reconsider our earlier decision.

“PDP is a law abiding party, it has no record of misunderstanding with security agencies. So we want to remain law abiding,”he said.

He said before the commencement of the event, they had received a report from Gaya that the police had dismantled all the sitting arrangements they made at the venue of the event.

“This morning, we woke up with nasty information that policemen have removed the canofies, chairs and everything at the venue of the event.

“We will give them another chance and I want to assure them that we will continue to respect them,”Doguwa said.

He, however called on party supporters to remain calm and avoid acts capable of causing chaos pointing out that those already at the venue of the event had been directed to leave the place.

“I want to assure all citizens that PDP will remain loyal to the constitution and constituted authority,”he added.

Also speaking, the PDM gubernatorial candidate, Engr Bashir Ishaq said, “I value the lives and properties of Gaya people and as a responsible citizen, I will not support anything that will cause trouble.”

He alleged that no fewer than 10 vehicles with armed policemen were deployed to the area to stop the planned rally.
